The seed for Farmer’s Hat Productions was planted when two
friends—both moms of multiracial, multicultural kids—went
looking for books that reflect their children’s life experiences.
Disappointed by what they found, they decided to create their own books.
It took time and research, hard work, and lots of questions: They
asked educators, librarians, and other parents what they want and
need for kids today. What they heard was “Show the world the
way it is,” “Make reading fun,” and especially “Get
kids outdoors and active!”
That’s how Bur Bur & Friends™ began. Our characters,
books and toys portray a diverse world, encourage early literacy,
and promote active play—outdoors, where there are hikes to
take and boats to steer, fish to catch and balls to throw.
To empower kids to:
- Discover sports, engage in physical activity and explore the outdoors
- Unearth and nurture their budding talents
- Develop self-esteem
- Have a voice at home and in the community
A farmer's hat provides shelter from the sun and rain, so the farmer can plant seeds and nurture healthy plants. Farmer's Hat Productions serves a similar purpose: Our fun, enriching books and other products create the right conditions for a child's mind to bloom.
